Information you provide
- Accounts: your email address, player name, and password. Passwords are stored as hashes rather than readable passwords.
- Guest play: an automatically assigned Guest number and a temporary session identifier.
- Games: player identifiers and names, moves, results, and game times. Registered accounts also have win, draw, and loss totals.
- Chat: messages you send are shared with others connected to the game. Avoid posting private or sensitive information.
How information is used
Chess4U uses this information to create and maintain accounts, keep you signed in, connect players, deliver game messages, save completed games, and show profiles and standings. Your browser also sends the network information needed to connect to the service, such as your IP address and request details.
What other players can see
Player names, game moves, results, and account statistics can be visible to other visitors through public games, profiles, archives, the player directory, and the Global Table. Your email address and password are not part of your public profile.
An unlisted game is not shown in the public game list, but its invite link can be forwarded. Unlisted play does not make completed game records private. Choose a player name you are comfortable sharing publicly.
Storage and service providers
Account information and completed game records are stored in the service database. Hosting and database services process information needed to deliver Chess4U. Data may also need to be disclosed where required by applicable law.
Account and game records are not automatically removed when you sign out or clear your browser. They remain available for account access, game history, and standings. Expired sessions are separate from these saved records.
Your choices
You can play as a guest without providing an email address. If you have an account, you can change your player name, email address, and password in Account settings. You can sign out through the account menu and clear saved browser data in your browser settings.
Signing out does not delete an account or its game records. Account deletion and data export are not currently available as self-service features.
Policy updates
This policy describes the current Chess4U features. If the way the service handles information changes, this page will be updated with a new date. See our Terms of Use for the rules that apply when playing on Chess4U.
